DCO Tuensang

The office of the District Cultural Officer, Tuensang was established in the year 1979, initially as Regional Cultural Officer.

            The office is located in the heart of Tuensang town. There are three branches of the office viz. general establishment, District Library and District Museum.

            The department is headed by the District Cultural Officer in the district and functions the office under him with the assistance of Assistant Research Officers, ministerial staffs and other Multi Tasking Staffs while the museum section are look after by the Assistant Curator and the Museum Assistant.

            The main function of the office is to foster the preservation and promotion of indigenous culture which is facing serious challenges due to faster pace of modernization. Under the directive of higher authority, the department also organizes various cultural Programme from time to time with the objectives to inculcate the knowledge and practices of indigenous culture especially among the youths.  Various researches and documentation such as folklore, myths, textiles, ornaments, historical sites, etc. under the department are the main duty of Assistant Research Officers.    

            Under the custody of District Library, there are 16,399   books. Currently, there are 35 registered rural libraries and the registered membership of library is 60. Receiving and registering of books; extending reading facilities and lending books to registered members; distributing books received from the directorate to registered rural libraries; proper management of library are some of the main function of District Library. The district library received books from Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata and Directorate office.  

            There are 155 specimens such as indigenous shawls, dresses, ornaments, jhuming implements and tools, hunting weapons, household material etc. under the custody of District Museum.
