The District Cultural Office, Mon; Nagaland was established in the year 1978 under the nomenclature – Regional Cultural Office (RCO), Mon, later it was changed into District Cultural Office. Shri Allem Ao was the first R.C.O/DCO of Mon who served from 1978-1983. So far, 10 (Ten) officers had served as DCO, Mon.
The Office of the District Cultural Officer, Mon is attached with District Library and District Museum. The District Library has over one thousand volumes of books and good numbers of artifacts or specimens in the District Museum. The Office generally render services on Promotion of Culture, Promotion and Development of Visual arts, Development of Archives, Cultural Research and Studies, Archaeology, Registration of Antiquities and Art treasures, Development of Museum, Protection of Heritage site and Promotion of Library services. There are 40 Registered Rural Libraries in Mon District.
